We have journeyed through a seasonal event (Christmas) in which we are either asked by others or we ask others, "what do you want me to get you this year?"  At Pillar Community Church, as we look back on our inaugural year and forward to year two such a question is far more than a 'seasonal focus.'  In fact, the question is at the center of the mission we seek to explore.  We will tweak the question a bit.  It will sound more like this: 'What do you desire?'  or 'What do you long for in this life?'  Yet more clearly; "What do you spend your time and money chasing (Matthew 6:20 -22)?"  How might you answer such a question, if it were put to you today?  While we somewhat intuitively recognize that we are 'beings of desire,' knowing our truest desire is often a struggle.

As you journey into 2012, perhaps a pause to ask the Lord to reveal to you the desire(s) that are truest of you.  Take enough time to sit an listen to His response.  Take enough time to know that you are known by Him!  Ruth Haley Barton suggests, in her book Sacred Rhythms, that "your desire for God and your capacity to reach for more of God than you have right now that is the deepest essence of who you are."

Perhaps 2012 will be a year, when looked back upon, in which we all 'reached for more of God than we have right now.

Here's to a 'Happy New Year' of Desiring Christ more!
